New Model iGUARD GEN-SET
Controller
F. W. Murphy’s new iGUARD is a powerful microprocessor-based
controller designed to work with today’s electronic engines.
The base model of this digital controller accepts J1939 protocol
inputs, but is capable of fitting a wide spectrum of gen-set applications,
including diesel or natural gas engines with electronic and non-electronic
engine inputs. The new iGCON Software Tool offers complete control
over set-ups, updates and customization. User profiles can also be
saved and recalled at a later date.
The iGUARD is well suited to packagers, OEM’s, and rental companies
because it can be used on many gen-set models and has program features
specific to these niche markets. Supply chain for gen-set controls
is simplified by using the iGUARD. It is one controller that can handle
a multitude of real life applications. The controller may be used on
prime power and/or standby power equipment in hospitals, ground support
equipment, agriculture, and aquaculture.
With up to 24 digital and 7 analog inputs, the IGUARD is flexible.
Inputs are available for up to three phases and neutral of AC measurement.
Magnetic pickup input is available for non-electronic engines or
secondary speed sensing. No extra relays needed because iGUARD provides
up to eight 20A, Form C relays.
The iGUARD uses a menu-driven system and can be programmed via the
front panel, or by using a PC and the iGCON software. Other features
include high speed flash-based microprocessors, high accuracy AC
measurement, multiple communications ports, a 12-button keypad, and
a graphic display.
The microprocessor is flash-based so the parameters can be easily
set from the front panel. The iGUARD keypad is a touch sensing system.
There are no mechanical switches to wear or stick. Completely sealed,
the keypad operates in extreme temperatures, with gloves, through
ice, snow, mud, grease, etc. The 64 x 128 pixel full graphic Liquid
Crystal Display is backlit for easy reading day or night.
The iGUARD is designed to meet NFPA110. For applications requiring
analog readout, gages may be added. The entire PowerView Analog gage
system can be driven by the iGUARD. These waterproof, weatherproof
gages can be installed in remote stations up to 5000 feet from the
gen-set.
One or two 24-contact remote I/O boards can also be driven by the
iGUARD. These optional MODBUS RTU devices provide dry contact annunciation
of 24 faults, states, or statuses, as well as four additional programmable
digital inputs. Communication
ports are included to connect the iGUARD to a computer or remote
communication
equipment. Ports include an RS232 port, an RS485 MODBUS port, and
a port that functions as either RS232 or RS485. A J1939 port provides
a direct connection to the engine ECU. Access to engine ECU data
eliminates the need to install additional senders.
The iGUARD controller has a textured finish, UV-stabilized, polycarbonate
injection molded housing, and is sealed with an o-ring for protection
from the environment.
