RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 30, 2004 Cracking the Code: FW Murphy’s PowerView Electronically-controlled engines have added enormous precision to monitoring engines. But there is a downside. When the engine begins to break down, you can no longer rely on your eyes and ears to diagnose the problem. “Repairs” have become “troubleshooting,” and malfunctions are hidden inside small black boxes. Fortunately, with FW Murphy’s PowerView instrumentation, you can finally see what your engine is trying to tell you. “It’s important to have a display or interface between an operator and the equipment,” said Chris Schutte, Off-Highway Market Manager at FW Murphy. “For unmanned applications, the machine can almost run itself now, leaving the operator somewhat disconnected. Now it’s more an issue of monitoring what is happening. Having an accurate and reliable display is crucial." PowerView and PowerView Analog Gages are the next generation of FW Murphy’s Award Winning MurphyLink™ product family. The J1939 MurphyLink™ family of products meets the needs for instrumentation on modern electronically controlled engines and equipment, communicating via the SAE J1939 Controller Area Network (CAN). The PowerView System is comprised of the PowerView display and the PowerView Analog Gages. The PowerView is a multifunction tool that enables equipment operators to view many different engine or transmission parameters and service codes. The PowerView information is displayed on its large graphical backlit LCD screen providing a window into the modern electronic engines and transmissions. The brightness of the back lighting can be controlled via menu or external dimmer potentiometer. The display can show either a single parameter or a quadrant display that includes four parameters simultaneously. Diagnostic capabilities include fault codes with text translation for the most common fault conditions. The PowerView has four buttons using touch-sensitive technology which eliminates the concern of push button wear and failure. In addition, operators can navigate the display with ease. Enhanced alarm indication uses ultra-bright alarm and shutdown LEDs (amber and red). The PowerView has a wide operating temperature range of -40 to 185ºF (-40 to +85ºC), display viewing operating temperature range of -40 to 167ºF (-40 to +75ºC), and environmental sealing to +/-5 PSI (±34 kPa). In addition the PowerView features Deutsch DT style connectors molded into the casing, plus it fits quickly and easily into existing 2-1/16 in. (52 mm) diameter gage openings. The microprocessor-based PowerView Analog Gages are a series of intelligent gages designed to display easy-to-read information transmitted by the PowerView. These modern gages, offered in a selection of lens and bezel styles and colors, display critical engine data such as RPM, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and system voltage. They include features such as a smooth stepper motor operation for the 270º sweep pointer, an environmentally sealed case with two Deutsch DT style connectors molded into the casing, and green LED back lighting. In addition to the PowerView Analog Gages, a combination audible alarm and relay unit is offered for warning and shutdown annunciation. The PowerView Audible Alarm fits the standard two inch gage panel opening and is used for warning and shutdown annunciation. New standard MurphyLink™ Plug & Go instrumentation panels were recently released for the PowerView System. These pre-engineered panels are complete solutions for stationary and mobile applications.
