FW Murphy Releases CASCADE Auto-Start/Stop Controller
(Tulsa, OK – June 3, 2005) FW Murphy has announced the release of the CASCADE controller, a new auto-start/stop controller for the generator set and industrial stationary markets.
The CASCADE is the latest addition to Murphy’s line of next-generation controllers, incorporating automatic or manual start/stop operation with basic shutdowns and fault annunciation.
The CASCADE operates electronically-controlled engines on the SAE J1939 CANbus protocol, as well as mechanically-controlled engines. This feature is intended to help ease the upgrade from traditional mechanical engines to the new electronic engines as required by rising emissions standards.
Other features of the CASCADE include its compact size, streamlined interface and high level of ruggedness. It requires only 3-button operation for most functions, and maintains a NEMA4 and IP65 rating when properly mounted in a rated enclosure.
“It is designed for maximum flexibility,” said Chris Autry, Power Generation Manager at Murphy. “The CASCADE can fit nearly any engine-driven application requiring a simple automatic start and stop sequence.”
The controller’s flexibility comes from the fact that it is equally compatible to genset and industrial stationary applications. “Providing the same interface across both environments allows us to reduce our customers’ upgrade costs, particularly in time and training,” said Mark Cramer, Industrial Stationary Manager at Murphy. “Its versatility will also be a great help to distributors, who now only have to stock one item to meet all these needs,” Autry said.
Some possible applications include standby and mobile generators, rental gensets, pump sets, air compressors, hydraulic power units, wood chippers and grinders.
“The CASCADE is unique since it has a dedicated AC frequency input as well as a dedicated Magnetic Pickup input,” Cramer said. “This broadens the applications immensely,” he said.
The CASCADE can communicate with engines via the J1939 CANbus or via such discreet inputs as Murphy SwichgageS®. The CASCADE controller’s MODbus interface also allows the use of Murphy’s PVA series analog gages, when applied to an ECU engine.
The CASCADE complements a product line which includes the iGUARD, a digital genset controller, and the eGUARD, a digital industrial stationary controller with auto-throttling.
