FW Murphy Releases eGUARD
Digital Auto-Start/Stop/Throttling Controller

(Tulsa, OK – July 14, 2005) FW Murphy has announced the release of the eGUARD controller, a new digital auto-start/stop/throttling controller for the industrial stationary market.

The eGUARD is the latest addition to Murphy’s line of next-generation controllers, providing a full range of unmanned engine control and protection. “The eGUARD can perform simple start/stop operation, as well as fully automatic throttle control,” said Mark Cramer, Industrial Stationary Market Manager at Murphy.

A key feature of the eGUARD is the ability to operate both mechanical and electronic engines.

The eGUARD operates electronically-controlled engines on the SAE J1939 CANbus protocol, and provides diagnostics on the most common electronic engine faults. The eGUARD can also utilize Murphy PowerView gages as an additional accessory to monitor engine parameters in analog form.

The eGUARD is also fully compatible with mechanically-controlled engines. This feature is intended to help ease the transition from traditional mechanical engines to the new electronic engines as required by rising emissions standards.

“The eGUARD is a controller designed to provide a smooth transition to ECUs,” Cramer said. “It provides a single flexible controller, with a simple and consistent interface across both types of engines. It makes the inevitable change that much easier with a lot less pain.”

That flexibility will also help engine distributors and equipment OEMs by requiring only one product that will work with both types of engines, Cramer added.

The throttling feature offers fully-automated speed control based on pressure, flow, level or other variable inputs.

Other features of the eGUARD include:

  • Electronic display of engine and equipment parameters
  • First out shutdown indication
  • 24 digital inputs, and seven analog inputs
  • Eight onboard relay outputs
  • Full MODBUS ® capability
  • Easily configurable by the front panel or through a PC
  • Maintains NEMA4 and IP65 rating when properly mounted in a rated enclosure.

The eGUARD is available as a Murphy M710 panel through the company’s Industrial Panel Division. Additional accessories include a mimic annunciator for remote operation and monitoring, and a wiring harness for simple “plug-and-go” installation. Minimum quantities will apply.

Some of the most common eGUARD applications include pumps, air compressors and power units.
