FW Murphy Named Tulsa’s Top
“Food for Families” Donor
(Tulsa, OK – April 5, 2007) FW Murphy has been named the top “Food for Families” donor by the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma for the ninth consecutive year. The announcement was made during the Food For Families awards ceremony Thursday, March 29.
Murphy, a Tulsa-based manufacturer of controls and instrumentation for industrial engines, donated 39,744 pounds of food. Each employee of the company collected an average of 101.6 pounds per person. Murphy collected 7,000 more pounds of food in 2007 over the previous year.
Murphy is responsible for almost 47% of the total amount of food collected in the 2007 food drive, said Cindy Stevens, Communications Manager of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
“We’re very proud of our accomplishment,” said Justin Bray, vice-president of Human Resources at Murphy. “Murphy has been a consistent supporter of Food For Families, and every year we enjoy working together throughout the company to help our community.”
Food For Families is a community-wide food and fund drive designed to support the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. The month-long event takes place each Spring.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the local food drive. More than 100 businesses, schools and other local organizations raised a total of 83,603 pounds of food and more than $29,000 in financial contributions.
Proceeds of this drive will be distributed to the Food Bank's 440 partner programs in 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma during the spring and summer. These pantries and on-site feeding programs typically serve more than 50,000 people weekly in eastern Oklahoma.
