The Industrial Panel Division provides a high level of customer support. We offer the shortest production lead times in the industry on the highest value solutions available. We have built an intensive quality program to offer high-value products. We also respond quickly and effectively to customer requirements to constantly improve our operations.

Overview

FW Murphy is an ISO 9001:2001 registered company with experience in performing to the top third party certification expectations – including CSA, CE, and UL. We also have extensive experience in managing and executing PPAP programs in support of customers’ requirements.

Our quality procedures ensure that our products are designed and delivered to meet our customers’ needs and expectations. This includes utilizing SolidWorks modeling capabilities to communicate visual design outputs to our customers before production. This streamlined communication delivers our customers reduced cost and cycle time when producing custom panels.

We have a variety of production tools to meet our customers’ needs. These tools include the ERP system to manage, plan, track, and execute each order. Our manufacturing documentation provides visual representation of how a product will be produced. To ensure that each order meets our customers’ specifications within the deadline, we combine that information with the following tools:

Enclosure Production

  • Turret Press Control Software. This software translates SolidWorks and other CAD files directly into machine code. It also monitors the tooling library and current load to ensure that the machinery is set up correctly for each job. This optimizes the production sequence to reduce material usage and cycle time.
  • Press Brake Automation Software. This software simulates our bending operation by using a model of the machinery and tooling with the provided SolidWorks file. This ensures that the bends are producible and optimizes the sequence for maximum efficiency. The simulation generates machine code for the part and visual work instructions for each bend sequence.

Wire Processing and Harness Production

  • Fully Automated Wire Processing. We have implemented the Artos MTX-5 wire processing machine for speed of production and quality assurance. This machine can measure cut length within 0.01 inches, apply ink jet marking continuously to the wire and monitor the force required to apply the solderless terminals.
  • Fully Integrated Testing on Assembly Fixtures. By integrating the test with the assembly fixture, we have reduced the handling required to fully test every harness we build. This deeply decreases cycle time while ensuring that we deliver quality products.

Panel Production

  • Kanban Controlled Inventory. All high-volume material is planned and managed by Kanban. This gives us a visual representation of stocking levels and faster transactions.
  • Functional Testing. Every panel we build is fully functionally tested before we ship it. The test instructions are written by the design engineers based on the customer application. This ensures that the components will function correctly, and that the system will work for the specific application.
  • Packaging. All panels are packaged in expandable foam. This protects the panels and components from damage and ensures that they are ready to be used from the moment they are delivered.

Continuous Improvement

IPD reduces costs to our customers with continuous product and operational improvements. We utilize a knowledge-based improvement process that focuses our efforts toward maximizing customer value while growing our business. This process draws on a variety of tools including MRP, Lean, Kanban, 5S, TOC, and many others. These tools are applied throughout IPD to ensure that we always maximize value, quality, and reliability.
